Russian is the language of commercial correspondence not only in Russia but also in Central Asia and the Caucasus. mots Tercüme translates contracts, technical documents, company papers and commercial correspondence between Russian and Turkish.
Central Asia and the Caucasus
Turkish firms doing business in Central Asian countries meet documents in Russian as well as in the local language. The same file may contain documents in two languages; which of them prevails is made clear at the outset.
The Cyrillic alphabet
Russian is written in the Cyrillic alphabet, and some letters resemble Latin letters but carry a different sound. This resemblance can cause confusion in fields such as product codes and serial numbers; these fields are checked separately.
Transliteration of names
More than one system is used for writing Russian personal and institutional names in Latin letters. The spelling in the passport or the registry document is taken as the basis and the same spelling is used throughout the file.
Company types
Russian company types are written with Cyrillic abbreviations. In translation the abbreviation is kept and, on first mention, what the company type is gets explained.
Technical documents and norms
Russian technical documents refer to national and regional norms. Norm numbers are not translated; if their names are needed, they are carried over with their official title.
Noun declension
In Russian, nouns are declined according to their function in the sentence. In translation from Turkish into Russian the declined forms of institution and product names are used consistently; proper names that will not be declined are identified at the outset.
The structure of contracts
In Russian contracts the introduction of the parties, the subject matter and the obligations are written in a set order. In bilingual contracts the two texts are matched clause by clause in facing columns.
Date and number format
In Russian the date is written in the order day, month, year and the decimal separator is a comma. A space is used as the thousands separator; this format is preserved in financial statements.
Powers of attorney and certificates of authority
In Russian-speaking countries the authority of a person who will act on behalf of a company is shown by a detailed power of attorney. Each item in the list of powers is carried over in translation one by one, with none skipped.
Formal style
Russian official correspondence uses long, formulaic expressions. The Russian version of a short Turkish letter is built to suit this style; the content is not changed.
From Russian into Turkish
Passive, noun-heavy sentences are common in official texts with a Russian source. When they are carried over into Turkish, the meaning is preserved and the sentences are built on the verb-centred structure of Turkish.
When certification is needed
The country where the Russian document will be used determines the legalisation chain. For countries that are parties to the Apostille Convention and for those that are not, the chain is planned separately at the start of the job.
Services requested together
Russian jobs most often come under technical translation, legal translation and notarised translation.
Summary
In Russian corporate translation the spelling of names determines the consistency of the file. If a single transliteration system is not chosen at the outset, the same company can appear in the documents under three different names.
