English is the language in which corporate written translation is most concentrated. mots Tercüme translates contracts, tender files, reports, technical documentation and corporate correspondence between English and Turkish in both directions.
The jobs organisations send most often
International tender files, bilingual contracts, annual reports and funding applications make up most of the English jobs. They are followed by technical specifications and software documentation.
British or American
Spelling ("colour" and "color"), some terms and punctuation differ between the two variants. The organisation's target reader is identified at the outset and the whole file is kept in a single variant.
The date format trap
The order of day and month is reversed between the two variants; 03/04/2026 means 3 April to one reader and 4 March to the other. In official documents this ambiguity is removed by writing the name of the month in words.
The set phrases of contract language
In English contracts, obligation, permission and possibility are expressed through specific set forms. If the Turkish equivalents of these forms are not chosen consistently, an obligation can read like a recommendation.
The language of international tenders
In tenders supported by international financial institutions, the documents are usually prepared in English. The specification's own terms are used in the same form in the bid file.
Trade name and company type
Company type suffixes such as "Limited", "Inc." or "PLC" are not translated; they are kept together with the trade name. The trade name of a Turkish company is given in the English text as it is spelt in the trade registry.
Numbers and the decimal separator
In English the decimal separator is a full stop and the thousands separator is a comma. In financial statements this difference is checked separately; a single separator error changes the amount a thousandfold.
Abbreviations and names of institutions
The names of Turkish institutions are written in the English text with the English name the institution itself uses. If it has no official English name, a descriptive rendering is given and the original name is left in brackets.
The language of reports and presentations
English corporate reports prefer short sentences and the active voice. Long, passive sentences coming from Turkish are rebuilt to suit this tone; the content is not changed.
Academic and funding applications
Applications to European funding programmes and international articles are prepared in English. The character limit and the application calendar are part of the translation plan.
From English into Turkish
When technical documentation, manuals and legislation with an English source are carried over into Turkish, established Turkish terms are preferred. Terms that have not settled in Turkish are given in their original form in brackets on first mention.
When certification is needed
If the English translation is to be submitted to an authority, a sworn translator's signature and notarisation may be required. The country where the document will be used determines the rest of the legalisation chain.
Services requested together
English jobs most often come under legal translation, financial translation and technical translation. For high-volume files the translation memory is set up at the outset.
Summary
In English translation the most frequent error arises not in the language itself but in inconsistency of variant and format. A file whose target reader, date format and number separator are fixed at the outset raises no questions at the receiving organisation.
